Cities and Towns In Livingston Parish |
|
|
Livingston Parish has eight municipalities, with Denham Springs being the largest. Other municipalities are Albany, French Settlement, Killian, Livingston (the parish seat), Port Vincent, Springfield and Walker. As in the past, the harvesting of forest products and being the parish seat still plays a major role in the economic life of the Parish. Livingston Parish has had explosive growth over the past 10 years. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina had a devastating effect of the area. With New Orleans suffering the brunt of the blow and Livingston Parish barely effected. This caused a major population shift. People from New Orleans, Saint Bernard and Chalmette started pouring into Livingston Parish for shelter and our excellent school system. Denham Springs and Springfield were the first two cities to feel the effect of the rapid growth. To this day the Parish is still growing and expanding at a fast pace. The slow national economy has had some impact but not as bad as the rest of the United States. With oil over $100 a barrel we are seeing a steady increase in the drilling and exploration of oil and gas in this area. With the recent addition of The Bass Pro Shop and two golf courses shows proof that the Parish and Local Governments are actively seeking new industries to come to the area.
